Tram Driver (Classic & Modern Networks)

Iconic Public Transport Role:
Operate both heritage W-class and modern E-class trams across Melbourne’s 250km network, including special event services.

Salary & Union Benefits:

• Annual Earnings: 95,000−95,000−115,000 AUD
  • Base Rate: $45.27/hr (Yarra Trams EBA)
  • Penalty Rates:
    • 150% Sundays
    • 200% Public holidays
  • Historic Tram Premium: +$3.20/hr
• Exceptional Conditions:

Training & Requirements:

• Certification: 12-week paid training academy
• Skills:
  • Precision stopping (+/- 10cm tolerance)
  • Crowd management (sporting events)
  • Vintage controls mastery (W-class)
• Physical:
  • 90-degree neck rotation test
  • Colour vision certification

Unique Operational Aspects:

• Route 96 (world’s busiest tram line)
• Special services:
  • Christmas light tours
  • AFL shuttle operations
  • Royal visit protocols
